last september, hiroshi yamauchi, the owner of the seattle mariners, passed away. as a result, the team wore a memorial patch in his honor for the remainder of the season. you can see it on abraham almonte's 2014 topps card below
yamauchi, of course, is much better known for his role in expanding the nintendo empire from a playing card manufacturer in the 1940's to the electronic gaming powerhouse that it is today. interestingly enough, despite owning the mariners for over a decade, yamauchi never did make it to a game in the states.
