there is only one 'regular' card from a major card manufacturer on sheet 22 in the steve garvey binder. have a look:
those cards are:
1. 1986 topps stickers (foil)
2. 1986 topps tiffany
3. 1986 true value
4. 1987 boardwalk and baseball
5. 1987 bohemian hearth padres
6. 1987 burger king
7. 1987 classic
8. 1987 donruss
9. 1987 donruss opening day
lots of oddball goodness there. the bohemian hearth card is the star of the sheet, but even the two non-licensed cards have a certain amount of charm. the boardwalk and baseball card comes from a 'top run maker' box set produced by topps. i believe there are variations out there that lack the '/' in the 'b/b' part of the card. finally, the 1987 classic card features two old guys - garvey, who was 38 in 1987, and an unnamed atlanta braves coach wearing number 42.
here are the backs:
the back of the classic card features some trivia questions, which makes sense since there was some sort of game associated with these cards as i recall.
there are only a couple more pages of cards from the garv's playing career, and then we get to the superfluous but pretty cool stuff.

yeah, i took his cards. big whoop. wanna fight about it?
here are some cards that i took off of topher's hands, courtesy of the crackin' wax 'take my cards' process. i made a donation to big brothers, chose some cards, and sent in a sase. it was just that simple.
i was late to the allen & ginter party, so anything prior to 2008 i am not quite sure what i have in the way of dodgers. i picked up a rafael furcal
and brad penny
card from the 2007 set. it kind of looks like furcal is posing in front of a map of yellow eurasia.here's a 2007 topps chrome juan pierre card
i cringe every time i see a version of this card. the blue jerseys that were worn in games only during davey johnson's reign. not good.
speaking of not good, that is how i remember luis gonzalez's time as a dodger. still, i needed his 2007 topps heritage card for the ol' collection
here's another furky, this one comes from 2010 upper deck
i like recalling how this was 'series 1' as if there was going to be another series after upper deck didn't try so hard to obscure logos.
here's a 1987 donruss opening day steve sax card.
and a 1989 donruss orel hershiser '59 and counting' card
i don't recall requesting orel, but a card featuring a dodger juggler is always welcome. but please don't start sending me your 1989 donruss cards. those are cards i won't take.
thanks topher!

some dodgers, padres and a brewograph from padrographs
rod over at padrographs contacted me about garvey cey russell and lopes in other uniforms and wanted to know if i was interested in those types of cards. of course i am! a short while later, a nice group of cards showed up. here are just a few:
1963 fleer tommy davis.
this is the first 1963 fleer card i own. much nicer than the knock-off vintage cards of today. in 1963, tommy was coming off a monster year where he led the majors in batting average and rbi.
1987 donruss
and 1987 donruss opening day steve garvey.
this would be garvey's last regular donruss card as he played in only 16 games in 1987. as i have lamented a couple of times here, score was the only manufacturer to make a garvey card in 1988. the opening day card looks like it might be at dodger stadium, with the light blue wall and reddish-orange pavilion seats peeking through the crowd.
1988 topps padres leaders.
tony gwynn and benito santiago. how ironic that the padres leaders card features a shot at dodger stadium. i know the dodgers leaders card from this set features a road picture too. weird. i knew this card was coming because i read rod's blog.
2000 mlb all century team playing cards jackie robinson as the king of clubs.
interestingly enough, jackie is shown in his montreal minor league uniform. i believe they were the royals.
2002 topps davey lopes.
managing the brew crew. upon closer inspection, i noticed that this card was signed by davey! good times! makes sense - he coached for the padres at one time, but didn't have any pads cards. awesome!
2002 upper deck piece of history steve garvey tape measure heroes jersey.
nice. celebrating his 1984 nlcs game winner off of lee arthur smith. it may not have been a tape measure job, but it cleared the fence, and that's what counts.
finally, 2008 topps stadium club manny ramirez.
1st day issue, numbered 225/599. the most idiotic airbrush job i know of. there is no reason to airbrush a manny card. stadium club is known for its photography, for goodness sake. i have to believe they wanted to use the 'ninety nine' store ad to tie in to manny's jersey number. at any rate, happy to have the card.
rod, thanks. i hope the cards i sent your way are equally appreciated. and get over to jake's sometime for some good eats.
