is this a brett wallach rookie card?

i am assuming that tim wallach is carrying his own kid around on his shoulders on his 1994 upper deck sp card
which also comes in a die cut state
if so, it could be brett wallach, who the dodgers drafted in the 3rd round of the 2009 draft.  here's his 2009 bowman draft picks & prospects card in its gold parallel variety
the younger wallach was born in december of 1988, so if the photo on the elder wallach's card is from spring training 1993, brett would have been four years old.  it wouldn't be the first time that a kid appeared on his dad's baseball card and then went on to have one of his own - the 1982 fleer set had a card with pete rose and pete rose jr, and young pete got a card of his own in the 1998 topps set.

unfortunately, it looks like brett wallach is out of baseball now.  he was traded to the cubs in 2010 and last pitched in their organization in 2012.

i am also thankful for cards that show the double play turn at second base

and i am especially thankful for cub season ticket holders that broke their sga sets and sold them as singles for low prices.  that's how i got this 2013 topps cubs season ticket holder giveaway glenn beckert card
thanks to wrigley wax for bringing this card to my attention.

also from 2013, but more widely available, is a 2013 topps allen & ginter dan uggla card
horizontal a&g isn't the best.

here's a 2012 topps jason kipnis.
i've shown a couple of other versions of this card, but never the regular ol' base. until today.

here's a 2012 topps pro debut jeremy patton card
i believe that the muckdogs are in the cardinal organization. i saw this one while digging through comc one day.  it was cheaper on sportlots, though.

how about a 2009 bowman draft picks & prospects brian dozier?
doze made the move to second this past season and did alright.  2014 is his 'year 27' season, and i've got him on my sleeper list for my fantasy draft next year.

now is the time when we see some chone figgins cards - 2008 upper deck first edition
and 2005 donruss
here's fellow angel darin erstad, although he's on miguel tejada's 2007 upper deck team checklist card
and i will end the post with some phillies.  first, cole hamels on a 2008 topps stadium club card (a 1st day issue parallel)
next, a couple of jimmy rollins cards - 2005 upper deck first pitch
and 2004 upper deck
it seems like double play cards are cropping up at every turn.  i am thankful to the bloggers who send me new ones in trade packages (and emails with links to images of dp cards) - someday i will catch up and get my 'have' list to match my actual haves!

happy canada day

the only canadian on the dodgers' roster today is pitcher blake hawksworth.  sadly, topps doesn't make too many cards of middle relievers (where's my matt guerrier card?) so i'll have to use a card of the dodgers most recent non-blake hawksworth canadian, russell martin.  here he is on what i believe to be a 2009 bowman draft picks and prospects chrome wbc card
in the bronx this year, martin's slugging percentage is up, but his average is down.  his war is also less than half of last year's dismal 1.8, but he will be heralded as to be having "an all-star" season because of joe mauer's injury and by virtue of playing in a city where most voters seem to be knee jerk yankee backers.

more power to him, i suppose.

in other news, i once spent a canada day in the fantastic city of ottawa and enjoyed myself quite a bit.  i have not been in dc for the fourth of july (i have been as close as baltimore, however) so i don't know how our capitol stacks up, but the best fireworks show i have ever seen was also in canada - at butchart gardens in bc.

voici a vous, canada.  i stand on guard for thee, eh.

cards from padrographs

rod at padrographs struck again recently with some more great cards.  i'll start with a 1986 donruss diamond king orel hershiser
and his 1986 donruss base
i guess we know which photo dick perez used to paint the diamond king portrait, although the artist put him in the home whites instead of the windbreaker.

another 1986 donruss card, this one of gilberto reyes
reyes appeared in a game for the dodgers in 5 different seasons, but 1986 was not one of them.  in 1985, his third year with the club, he had just one official at bat and three total plate appearances.  he hit two of the three true outcomes in those appearances - striking out and walking in his first two, but then he was hit by a pitch before he could hit a homerun in his third plate appearance.  for some reason, donruss decided he was worthy of a card and here we are.

2009 topps unique matt kemp red parallel
not sure if i like the red better than the black base.  blue might have been a good color to go with, especially for the dodgers.

speaking of blue, here's a 1990 score darrin fletcher
you've got to love the landscape photo with the portrait card format.  strange that score was so rigid with the layout that they couldn't go horizontal yet they didn't bother using a different photo.

rod also sent a few cards from 2010 topps pro debut - a set i had not seen nor heard of until he featured it on his blog.  here's tony delmonico of the great lakes loons
this season, delmonico is with the high-a inland empire '66ers where he is catching and hitting around .300 under the watchful eye of franklin stubbs.

garrett gould of the ogden raptors
gould appeared in 3 games for the raptors last season.  he got hit around a bit, but that's ok.  the kid is only 18.

ehtan martin
now we're getting somewhere as this guy is highly touted, usually in the top 3 of dodger prospects.  like delmonico, he's currently with the '66ers with charlie hough as his pitching coach.  he turns 21 in a month and is currently striking out batters at a rate of over one per inning.

jon michael redding
here's another loon now pitching for the '66ers.  he's struggling a bit so far this season, but he went 16-3 last year with the loons.

blake smith
smith played in the arizona rookie league last year, and is with the loons so far this year.  he's a rightfielder hitting about .280 with 5 home runs and 20 rbi.

we'll finish with a current isotope, brent leach, shown here on a 2009 bowman draft picks and prospects card
leach went 2-0 in 38 games for the dodgers last year, but hasn't been called up yet.  with george sherrill struggling, there may be a need for a situational lefty sooner rather than later.

thanks for the cards rod!
