speaking of high school, here's a 2012 panini triple play matt kemp when i was a kid card

the back is all about how basketball was kemp's primary sport until late in his high school years.  now, is this card better than the early 70's topps boyhood photos of the stars subsets?  maybe.  but then again, maybe a black and white picture of kemp posterizing some kid under the basket would have been ok, too.

like i said, a lot of good cards there.  speaking of good cards, i've been meaning to have another contest of sorts.  i have a lot of good cards to trade.  you may have some dodgers you want to get rid of.  and, there are a lot of good cards up in my header.  just in case you aren't looking at the web version of the blog, here's my header, or at least the cards:

i count 31 cards in my header.  all you have to do is identify them.  get it right, and i'll send you up to 9 pre-1980 cards from the team of your choice in a pwe.  you can send one or two dodger cards back, if you like, but it's not required. heck, i'll probably send cards just for trying since there are a couple of obscured cards, plus a tricky one in there.  to make things easier, i've set up a key for the header:

jeff at 2x3 heroes was at it again recently, sending a pwe my way.  oddly enough, there were a couple of ryan reynolds items.

can't wait for green lantern 2.

actually, those are two clayton kershaw items from 2012 panini triple play.  the top one is a sticker, and the second one is the regular ol' base card.

here's a beardless scott van slyke on his 2008 bowman prospects gold parallel card

at 6'-5", i'm going to guess that he's played some basketball and learned how to spin a helmet along the way.  unfortunately, van slyke is the team's fifth outfielder who also plays first, but adrian gonzalez doesn't really miss any games.  the team's fourth outfielder (or is he back in the top 3?) is carl crawford.  jeff sent this 2014 topps archives card of cc my way

this, of course, reminds me of paul from carl crawford cards, and i hope he's doing well.

jeff also sent me a couple of cards featuring memorial patches.  one of them, a 2014 bowman chris johnson card featuring the sandy hook patch, has been added to that particular post.  the other will be featured in an upcoming post.

that is a fairly colorful card.  it also look like there is a ufo hovering over the rangers' head.  also note that the ranger player is wearing the johnny oates memorial patch.  a lot going on on this card.

in one of the more odd items i have received in a trade package, tom from waiting til next year sent me this coaster last week

as far as i can tell, that's a 2012 topps mini matt kemp card in there.  strange, but useful.

there were a few cards in the package, too, such as this 2012 panini triple play james loney

and this 2013 panini triple play andre ethier

the trade was borne out of the 2013 panini triple play post (tom wanted the starlin castro card) and the ethier was the only one i was expecting in return.  it was a nice surprise to find other cards and the coaster. thanks tom - i'll get starlin (and a few friends) in the mail on monday.

this is the first time i have featured any of these on the blog.  i did buy a couple of packs of the stuff when it was released, just out of curiosity.  

this might be the last time james loney appears on the blog. this is his 2012 bowman card

the same set (i think?) that this joc pederson card came from

but different from this 2012 bowman chrome prospects jt wise card.

bowman is too confusing.

jeroen included some minis - like this 2012 topps mini andre ethier

and the double play turning dee gordon.

that's cool because now i have a dupe of the gordon for the double play binder.  same for this next card, a 2013 topps emerald parallel of gordon, once again, turning two.

i know jeroen collects kershaw, so i appreciate him giving this one up.
