look at some cards that feature double plays

they are self explanatory and offer up an easy post topic, which is what i need right now.  all are either new to my collection or recently unearthed from any number of monster boxes in my somewhat unorganized card collection area.

turn it davey!

i was happy and disappointed at the same time when i found out that davey lopes made the 2013 topps update postseason hero autograph checklist.  happy that there was a new lopes card coming out, disappointed that it was an auto only, and even more disappointed when i found out it was limited to just 10 copies.  then i found out that the photo topps used has lopes turning a double play!  i missed out on the first one to hit ebay, but won the auction for the second one.
i doubt i will find another one for the double play binder, however.  i give topps high marks for the photo selection - along with the fact that it's nice dp action, they used a photo from 1981 which goes nicely with the text on the back which focuses on the 1981 world series.

here are some other 2013 topps update double play cards that i've neglected to show - brandon phillips
luis valbuena (emerald)
and luis valbuena (gold)
now for some 2013 topps minis - gordon beckham
and danny espinosa
along with dee gordon
now just a couple of regular 2013 topps - robert andino (gold)
alexei ramirez
marco scutaro
and ruben tejada
and now we'll leave the 2013 topps family and see some 2013 bowman.  yeah, still topps family.

bowman chrome prospects luis sardinas
regular 2013 bowman prospects luis sardinas
and 2013 bowman prospects luis sardinas international parallel
he's from venezuela.

i'll finish this double play centered post with a card from the 1985 7-up cubs set.  it's ryne sandberg's card, but bill russell is the star
i wish the dodger middle infielders of my youth were on more cards.

thanks for the gold

i have received some nice golden cards lately.  some by request and some just because.  emerald  diamond gems sent me a 2013 topps clayton kershaw gold parallel
along with a few other cards.

robert at $30 a week habit sent along some other 2013 topps dodgers - mark ellis
and josh beckett
also just because.  in fact, this fantastic 2011 topps howie kendrick gold double play card was a nice add to the package as well.
that's because i had only requested these three cards - a 2013 topps danny espinosa gold parallel
which fits nicely into my double play, dodger stadium, and lurker collections (hello, tony gwynn jr) - a 2013 topps jason kipnis gold parallel
also desired due to the double play turn - and lastly a 2011 topps freddy sanchez gold parallel
now you might be asking yourself why, on god's green earth, would i request a card of a giant with no obvious redeeming qualities?  well, the answer there will have to wait a few days, although i think i have hinted at it a few times.

thanks guys for the trades!

attack of the revenge of the double plays, part 643

i have a few different ways of finding double play cards.  probably the most common way these days is by noticing cards posted on other blogs.  that includes cards that should have been, like this 1956 topps bill mazeroski card that was created by bob lemke
another way is by going back and looking through my collection.  i didn't always pull double play cards for the binder.  i recently decided to break my 1991 upper deck set to get at the double plays that weren't already in my dp collection.  i wound up with jerry browne
alvaro espinosa
mike gallego - front
and back
donnie hill
paul molitor
jody reed
ryne sandberg
and frank white
i also found a 1992 classic denny hocking card in my binder that had not yet been posted here
more perusing through the boxed up cards revealed the back of a 1994 topps travis fryman card
and a 1995 topps john valentin cyberstats parallel
as well as a 2001 topps stadium club orlando cabrera card
those are only a couple of ways that i find double play cards to my collection.  i will give examples of other methods another time.
