a superba double dipper - eeyah! a triple dipper, actually!

hughie jennings is in the hall of fame, thanks to his prowess as a shortstop.  he may be better known as a manager, however, as he won three straight pennants with the tigers in the early 1900's as their skipper.  he also liked to yell 'eeyah!', apparently.

now, i thought that juan castro was the only dodger triple dipper, and while that is technically correct, jennings also triple dipped for the franchise (known as the superbas at the time) if baseball reference can be trusted for events prior to 1900.

i have but one card of jennings as a brooklyn player, and even then he may well be in something other than superba gear - this is his 1990 target dodger card
jennings joined brooklyn for the 1899 season after 5 fantastic seasons in baltimore in which he averaged .361 at the plate, topping out at .401 in 1896.  his first go around with brooklyn lasted 16 games in which he hit .176.  he was traded back to baltimore where he appeared in a couple of games before the trade was reversed a few days later.  back with brooklyn to finish out the season, jennings hit .326.  he spent the entire 1900 season with the superbas, but joined the phillies for the 1901 and 1902 campaigns.  jennings completed his triple dip when he returned to brooklyn for the 1903 season.

eeyah!
