after two failed (or pending for a really long time) ttm attempts - one c/o home and one c/o the dodgers - i snatched up an autographed 1978 topps steve yeager card on ebay.
as always, i choose to believe it's legit (reputable dealer, good feeback etcetra, etcetra). at any rate, it looks like the certified autos i have of yeager, including the one up there in my blog header. yeager still does some promotional work with the dodgers, but i haven't been able to connect with anyone that can score an auto for me.
yeager was one of the co-co-mvps of the 1981 world series, but before that, he was the catcher that i most closely identified with. somewhat surprisingly, he caught more than 100 games only 5 times in his dodger tenure, and one of those seasons was 1983 when he was two years into his role as mike scioscia's backup. still, when i would go through the dodger lineup with my bat in hand in the front yard, steve yeager was batting 8th, just ahead of don sutton.
i, for one, think yeager is pretty badass. he's related to chuck yeager, first of all. next, the mayor of la was his best man. he survived getting impaled in the throat by a bat while on deck, and later survived a horrific car crash. plus, he and his family made it through 6 days on family feud! color me impressed!
back to the 1978 topps card - it is the 23rd piece in my modest 1978 topps dodger autograph project.
